While Square Enix initially adopted a wait-and-see approach to the development of Final Fantasy 15 on the PC, the lack of recent news has had some gamers worried the potential port had been outright scrapped. A recent interview with Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata confirmed that the game hasn’t been ruled out for a PC release just yet, but even if it is eventually given the green light, fans shouldn’t expect to see it any time soon:
Back in April, Tabata was the one who helped begin the rumors of Final Fantasy 15’s potential PC port by stating that he and Square Enix would take “a good, hard look” at bringing the game to computers everywhere. On paper, the game seems like a perfect fit for the platform- Final Fantasy 15’s incredible graphics and revamped combat system represent a great starting point for continued PC support. Unfortunately, however, Tabata was unhelpfully vague regarding the development status of a PC port, failing to confirm or deny if the process had already begun in earnest.
Final Fantasy 15’s status on the PC may be cloudy, but its place as one of the most important holiday video games of 2016 is still assured. With many gamers expecting Final Fantasy 15 to represent a revitalized JRPG genre as a whole, the game will be a central point of discussion among critics and fans alike, and should play a huge role in moving Sony’s PS4 Slim console thanks being part of a collector’s edition bundle.
Still, it’s one thing to outright deny that a PC port is feasible, but Square Enix’s noncommittal approach has left many PC gamers out in the cold. If the title is being developed, gamers who play on both PC and console would likely want to know prior to the holiday season so they can decide whether they want to wait for the PC version. Unfortunately, it looks like Final Fantasy 15’s status as a potential PC port is something that is unlikely to be clarified in the near future.
Final Fantasy 15 will release worldwide on November 29, 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One.
