While Final Fantasy 15 had no plans for the Switch as of six months ago, it appears that half a year goes a long way in changing a publisher’s mind. Square Enix hosted a panel on Twitch during Gamescom that featured Final Fantasy 15 director Hajime Tabata, who had something very interesting to say via translator regarding the future of the extremely popular Final Fantasy title:

Tabata also stated that nearly everyone on the Final Fantasy 15 team loves the Switch, which seems to indicate that the development team would be more receptive to doing the work that would be required to bring the game over to Nintendo’s darling console. While Tabata’s comments are just cagey enough that it seems like he isn’t allowed to confirm anything just yet, it would appear that Square Enix is leaning toward creating a port of Final Fantasy 15 for the Switch after all.

Naturally, that’s a huge deal for both Nintendo and Square Enix if it ends up being the case. The two companies have had a fruitful business relationship in the past when it came to the Final Fantasy series, and the Switch is quickly beginning to find a home as the default location for a number of RPG ports and new releases. If Final Fantasy 15 ends up on the Switch, there’s a good chance both companies will see dividends in both the short and long term - especially if Final Fantasy 15 becomes the first of many Final Fantasy titles to be released on the Switch over its lifespan.

Final Fantasy 15 is available now for PS4 and Xbox One, and will release for PC in early 2018. A Switch version of the game has yet to be confirmed.
