The Island Sanctuary is a new type of laid-back content available to players who complete the Main Scenario of Endwalker. Players can build buildings, cultivate crops, capture creatures, and gather resources to create their perfect hideaway on the Island Sanctuary.

One of the major ways players can customize the island is by releasing minions to wander around locations near their home base. When released, each minion repeats a small piece of dialogue when the player approaches. While some creatures will bark, roar, or meow as appropriate, the wind-up versions of major Final Fantasy 14 NPCs and monsters often say words. While most of the lines are taken straight from the game, the dialogue often references memes from the community, such as Minfillia’s “Pray return to the Waking Sands,” quote, or the hilarious “This is Thancred,” meme from Endwalker.
Players instantly fell in love with this charming little feature of Final Fantasy 14’s Island Sanctuary. While they were already excited to be able to release their minions, few expected them to actually talk when they were set loose. Fans immediately started releasing their favorite minions on the island to see their dialogue and report the best quotes to their fellow players. What’s better, the quotes often differ in other languages, so international players also got to share their own versions with fans abroad.
Releasing minions on the Island Sanctuary is simple. Once players travel to the Island Sanctuary after unlocking it in Old Sharlayan, they will follow a simple tutorial to establish their cozy cabin, critter pen, and garden. Shortly after, they will get the ability to release minions in the various areas of their home base. Players can have a total of 40 Final Fantasy 14 minions spread out across the four areas at once.
Though Final Fantasy 14 players have fallen in love with the Island Sanctuary, Patch 6.2 did add other content to the game as well. The next leg of the Pandaemonium raid is now available, with the high-difficulty Savage mode opening soon. A new branch of the Main Scenario Quest was also added, including a new dungeon and Trial for players to battle. If players can pull themselves away from their Island Sanctuary retreats, there are a bevy of new challenges that await.
Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
