In the past, Final Fantasy 14 had released several books online, including concept and promotional art for every new expansion. The game had also released Encyclopaedia Eorzea, an encyclopedia of the in-game world of Final Fantasy 14, Eorzea, offering great detail of the lore for fans of the series. This recently released picture book, however, promises to offer a more approachable experience suitable for all ages.

Titled Namazu and Something No One Has Ever Seen Before, the story revolves around a village of Namazu that is currently dealing with a drought. One of the Namazu is tasked to show a visiting Odder Otter “something no one has ever seen before,” in order to bless the Namazu village with rain once more. The author of the book, Banri Oda, is one of the main scenario writers of Final Fantasy 14 while the art was handled by concept artist Hiroyuki Nagamine.

The Namazu, a catfish-like race of creatures, are featured heavily in Stormblood with an entire beast tribe subquest for players to explore. The Odder Otter, an otter that carries a lantern and uses a lilypad as a sun hat, is an in-game minion that players can earn starting with Stormblood.

Priced at 1,300 JPY, roughly $12 USD, the picture book is currently available on the Japanese Square Enix website with no word on an English translation at the moment. Fans who wish to purchase the picture book can also preorder the mini Final Fantasy 14 figurines set to release on the site later this May.

Final Fantasy 14 is now available on PC and PS4, with an ongoing PS5 open beta.
