Traveling to Other Data Centers in Final Fantasy 14

Not only has Square Enix made the process incredibly easy to do, but the popularity of traveling across Data Centers in Final Fantasy 14 has thrown wide the gates for many players who wanted to see and engage with the famous (and infamous) communities from other Data Centers. Unlike server hopping, Data Center travel cannot be performed while logged into one’s character, and it requires the player to be in the character selection screen to undertake the process.

Players who wish to temporarily transfer from the home Data Center should be made aware that they’re only allowed travel between the Data Centers within their region.

This means that a player from an American Data Center cannot travel to any of the three Japanese Data Centers, and given the fact that the Oceania Data Center in Final Fantasy 14 is the only one in the region, players from Oceania sadly cannot make use of this system yet.

To travel to another Data Center in Final Fantasy 14, players must right-click on their character in the selection menu and choose the option “Visit Another Data Center” above the character deletion line.

They will be met with a prompt to choose the destination Data Center, as well as the server they’ll be traveling to. After selecting their preferred landing spot and clicking on the “Confirm” button, the game starts the process of transferring the character to the destination server.

With a bit of patience, players will find themselves returning to the character selection screen in less than a minute during regular congestion. For the duration of their visit, players will be able to interact with other players, visit housing districts, and browse the Market Boards, but much like with server hopping, they will not be able to join free companies.

While they will be allowed to befriend and see if their friends on the other Data Center are online, Final Fantasy 14 players won’t be able to chat with them until they complete the process of returning to their home server.

With a right-click on their character in the selection screen, they will now have the option to go back home – and much like sending them across to the other Data Center, after a brief waiting period, players should find themselves on their server of origin once again.

Final Fantasy 14 is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5.
