Over the past year, many players have begun their adventure throughout Eorzea, increasing the player count of Square’s long-running MMO at an extraordinary pace. After over a decade following its resurgence as A Realm Reborn, the Final Fantasy 14 franchise has another milestone to celebrate on top of its many existing accolades.

During the latest Letter from the Producer LIVE, Final Fantasy 14’s Director Naoki Yoshida confirmed that the game has amassed over 22 million registered accounts. In July 2020, Square announced its title had over 20 million registered players, making the increase in 2 million players over an eight-month span an impressive feat. The announcement of the milestone alongside the live letter in its entirety can be viewed on YouTube.

Part of the reason for this massive influx of players can be attributed to the free trial campaign that Final Fantasy 14 implemented last year, offering free gameplay up to and including the Heavensward expansion. Since its changes to the free trial, the player count has increased substantially, partially due to word of mouth within the community itself.

Other key details discussed during the live letter were gameplay footage from the upcoming PS5 version of Final Fantasy 14. The beta, releasing on the same date as Patch 5.5 on April 13th, will include a higher resolution UI and faster loading times to bring the gameplay of the console version up to par with the PC version.

Final Fantasy 14 is out now on PC and PS4, with a beta launching on PS5 on April 13.
