It’s easy to overlook just how impressive modern remasters are, so a good side-by-side breakdown is a big help. The original Final Fantasy 12 launched for PlayStation 2 over ten years ago and Sony consoles have gotten a lot more powerful in that time. YouTuber Candyland breaks down the big improvements in a video that compares the original PS2 release to The Zodiac Age running on a PlayStation 4 Pro.

Here’s a look at the side-by-side comparison video…

There’s no denying that these changes are impressive. Gamers have been complaining that the current console generation is full of too many remasters and not enough original titles, but that certainly hasn’t been reflected in sales numbers. Most recently, the remastered Crash Bandicoot trilogy has been making respectable sales and it will be interesting to see if nostalgic Final Fantasy fans turn out in similar numbers for The Zodiac Age.

Remasters and ports of old Final Fantasy games seems to always find an audience and earlier this year when there were rumors of a complete anniversary collection coming, consumers were begging for a place to make pre-orders. Whether or not that excitement translate to dollar signs for the publisher, we’ll find out in the next few weeks.

What do you think of the side-by-side comparison? Is it impressive enough to convince you to pick up a copy of the remaster when it launches? Let us know in the comments.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age will release for PS4 on July 11, 2017.
